PAINTED-SNIPE // ROSTRATULA  BENGHALENSIS (24cm)

GAMBIA TOUR 2018.
=================
DEEP MANGROVE COVER, rarely coming to the edge, and being sighted normally cower and retreat into the vegetation, so a real challenge. THIS IS WHAT WE HAD TO DO! the area is very flooded, thick mud, the Gambians, bless their hearts, have put down old car tyres as stepping stones, about 75 of them, try keeping your balance, with your camera, standing on a flexible Tyre wall , when you get their, there is a hide of sorts, and to get in and set up in silence is hard. We waited and waited, and the Lord answered my silent prayer, as a few started to move to the edge, but still with loads of mangrove roots covering parts of them. and in fairly dark cover, One male bird above, moved into a single ray of sunlight, and it was just enough to fire off a few images! Thank God!
